Corporate Banking Services in Thailand

Corporate account-opening preparation, foreign-currency account coordination and signatory setup support for companies in Thailand.

Part of Viettonkin's Global Company Registration services

Foreign direct investment applications to Thailand's Board of Investment covered 2,421 projects worth about THB 1.36 trillion in 2025, up 66 percent in value from 2024. Turning those plans into operating companies still depends on a corporate bank account, and Thai banks set their own requirements for how recent company documents must be and how signatories are verified, while supporting documents for larger foreign-currency transfers also follow Bank of Thailand rules. A document set that satisfied one bank may not satisfy another.

Viettonkin coordinates corporate account-opening preparation for companies in Thailand. We confirm the selected bank’s current checklist, prepare the corporate records and authority documents, plan signatory verification and help organise the information the bank requests, while the bank retains its own approval decisions.

What a Thai bank looks at

A Thai bank’s review brings together the company’s registration records, its ownership, its intended business and the people who will operate the account. Each part has practical preparation points.

The company’s current registration documents are the starting point, and banks can be specific about how recently they were issued. Because each bank sets its own rules, certificates and certified copies are best ordered once the chosen bank’s checklist is confirmed, so they are still current when the application is submitted.

The bank will also want to understand who owns the company, what it will do and where its funds come from. For a foreign-owned company this can mean documents about the foreign shareholder, the parent group and the funds that will capitalise the business.

Banking also has to fit the company’s wider setup plan. Board resolutions, director appointments and shareholder information should be settled before the bank reviews them, because changes made during the review can lead to further questions. We therefore align the banking timetable with the corporate secretarial work, so the bank sees the company in its settled form.

Choosing the right bank in Thailand

The right bank depends on how the company will operate, not on a general ranking. These are the decision points we work through with you.

Local operations or cross-border treasury

A company whose business is mostly local receipts, payroll and Thai suppliers has different needs from one managing regular flows with its parent or overseas customers. Banks differ in their payment services, foreign-currency accounts and support for group cash management, so the choice starts from the transactions the company expects.

Language and onboarding approach

Resolutions and some forms may need to be in Thai or accompanied by translations, depending on the bank. Some banks offer onboarding support in English for foreign-owned companies while others work mainly in Thai, and confirming this early helps plan who prepares, translates and signs the documents.

Existing group relationships

If the parent already works with a bank that operates in Thailand, that relationship is worth exploring first, because the group may already be familiar with the bank’s documentation. The Thai company is still onboarded under the bank’s local requirements, so a group relationship does not replace the local checklist.

Future facilities

Companies expecting trade finance, guarantees or credit facilities benefit from raising those needs at the outset. These facilities require their own bank review and are scoped separately, but discussing them early avoids a second onboarding with a different bank later.

Prepare the bank’s document package

This is a starting checklist. Obtain the selected bank’s current requirements for the applicant and branch, including document dates and translation rules.

Prepare the bank’s document package
Document groupWhat to prepare
Company recordsThe current company certificate, constitutional documents and shareholder information requested by the bank.
Account-opening authorityA resolution or other authorisation identifying the account and persons able to operate it.
Director and signatory identityCurrent identity documents and any additional residency or verification evidence required by the bank.
Ownership and fundingOwnership structure, business purpose and supporting source-of-funds documents.
Permissions where relevantForeign-business or BOI documents relevant to the company’s activities and the bank’s assessment.

Resolve these points before activation

Bank requirements and transaction rules need to be applied to the company’s actual circumstances. These four points decide whether the account is usable when the business needs it.

Check how recent documents must be

Requirements vary by bank and application type, so do not apply one universal validity period to every company certificate or supporting record. Confirm the receiving bank’s current checklist before ordering documents, and keep a note of each document’s issue date in the application file.

Confirm signatory attendance

Establish whether a branch visit or another verification route is required before booking travel or scheduling activation. Where several signatories are involved, confirm whether each of them needs to be verified, and build the step into the timetable rather than treating it as a formality at the end.

Assess foreign-currency transfers by purpose

Use current Bank of Thailand and bank instructions. Do not rely on a single reporting threshold for every type of inward or outward transfer; describe the expected capital, loan and trading flows to the bank early, and agree the supporting documents for each type.

Configure online approval controls

Agree authorised users, approval combinations and limits. Digital-banking setup may be a separate step from opening the account, so plan the first payroll and supplier payments around the date online access is confirmed.

What often slows an application in Thailand

Many avoidable delays come from the documents rather than from the bank’s rules. These are the issues we check for before submission.

A generic board resolution

A resolution prepared for another purpose often does not identify the bank, the account or the people authorised to operate it. The bank may then ask for a new resolution, which needs a further company decision, so drafting it to the bank’s requirements from the start avoids that step.

Source-of-funds evidence that is hard to follow

A recently established holding company may not yet have the financial history a bank expects when it asks where the capital comes from. In that case the explanation and supporting evidence from the wider group need to be prepared in advance, and a clear account of the funding makes the review easier to complete.

Foreign-business status left unresolved

Where a company’s activities may require foreign-business permission, the bank may ask about the position as part of its assessment. Leaving the question until the banking stage can hold up the account for reasons that have nothing to do with the bank, so the permission position is best confirmed during setup.

How Viettonkin coordinates the application

The scope covers preparation and coordination; the bank retains its approval and due-diligence decisions. Each step has a clear output, so you can see where the application stands.

Confirm the requirements

We review ownership, currencies, expected transactions and funding needs, then agree the bank’s checklist and any time-sensitive dependencies. The output is a confirmed document list and a working timetable, with fixed dates such as a contribution or first payroll built in from the start.

Reconcile the documents

We check names, addresses, appointments and ownership information across the package and arrange agreed supplementary records or translations to the bank’s instructions. The company reviews and approves the final package before it is submitted.

Coordinate bank questions

We help organise the information requested during KYC or additional due diligence. The company approves explanations and provides accurate supporting evidence, and each query and response is recorded so the same question does not need to be answered twice.

Prepare the handover

We confirm account status, signatory verification and online-banking arrangements with the bank, and retain the relevant account and contribution records with the company file. You receive a summary of what is set up and what, if anything, remains to be completed.

Set the scope of banking support

Agree the initial application and any continuing support separately. Specialist advice and financial products sit outside standard banking coordination.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers for your banking setup.

Is account opening guaranteed?

No. The bank decides whether to accept the company after its own review. Viettonkin supports preparation and coordination but cannot bypass the bank’s requirements.

Can the process be completed remotely?

The bank’s verification requirements determine this. Confirm the route for each authorised person before relying on remote opening or making travel arrangements.

When should we start preparing?

Start when the entity and funding plan are being finalised. Ask for the bank’s current checklist early, and identify any contribution or operational deadlines that depend on account readiness.

Will the bank ask about the ultimate owners?

The bank may request ownership-chain and beneficial-owner information as part of due diligence. Prepare a complete and consistent explanation with supporting records.

Does opening the account mean we can make payments immediately?

Not necessarily. Signatory authority, online users, approval controls and transaction limits may require additional setup. Confirm operational access with the bank before scheduling payments.
